Tread depth

The legal minimum tread depth for car tyres in Ireland is 1.6mm. As the guide shows, grip and safety drop well before that point — at 3mm and below we recommend checking your tyres monthly and planning a replacement.

Reading your tyre size

Your tyre size is printed on the sidewall, e.g. 205/55 R16 91V: width (205mm), profile (55%), rim diameter (16 inch), load index (91) and speed rating (V).
